3 Signs That Your Roof Needs to Be Repaired

    Last updated 2 years ago

Like the sky above our heads, it is easy to take our roof for granted.

Just think about it: Our home would not be a home without a roof. Quite simply, a roof shelters our family and possessions.  A damaged or leaky roof puts the home and everything within it at risk of exposure.

This is why you need to be on the lookout for signs that your roof is damaged or needs repair.

There are three main signs of roof damage to look out for:

    • The roof’s physical appearance: Step outside your home and inspect your roof from your yard for any damaged shingles.  Look for shingles that are broken, deformed, cracked, or misplaced.  If your roof is tile, look for cracked tiles and any breaks in the uniformity of the tile design.
    • How the roof feels:  If possible, you can also walk onto your roof and inspect it closer.  Make sure your roof is not unstable.  Check for soggy areas, or places where there is an obvious “give” or softness in the construction.  Georgia homes are especially prone to hail damage during heavy summer storms.  If a hail damaged roof is not taken care of immediately, it can lead to costly repairs and even require replacement in the future.
    • Damage inside the home: The third, and most extreme, sign that your roof needs repair is a leaky roof.  When soggy or wet spots appear on your ceiling, this means that moisture or water is seeping down from the roof.  This moisture could be causing unseen damage to other areas of your home. If water is actually dripping down from the ceiling, place a bucket underneath the drip and call a roofer immediately to handle the situation.

No matter the extent of the damage, finding a great roofing company to handle these unfortunate situations is crucial.

Findlay Roofing, located in Georgia, specializes in roof repair, as well as gutter, door, and window installation.  Caring for your home the correct way will surely benefit you and your family for many years to come.

Looking for an Upgrade? The Best Materials On The Market To Replace Your Roof

    Last updated 2 years ago

Is your roof in need of repair?  Do you have a leaky roof that forces you to haul out the buckets when it rains?  Are you sick and tired of the drip-drip-drip sound throughout the night?  Or perhaps your roof is simply outdated and dull.

Well, whatever the reason for having your roof replaced, choosing the best roofing materials is essential to the aesthetic beauty of your home, as well as to the durability and lifespan of your new roof.

There are many great roofing materials to choose from, as well as wonderful styles and colors.

    • Tiles: Tile roofing is highly durable and resistant to harsh weather conditions.  If properly installed, tile roofing will prevent leaky roofs and ceilings.  And while tiled roofs may cost more than other options, they are long lasting and a beautiful upgrade to any home.
    • Asphalt Shingles: Fiber-glass based, asphalt shingles are the most common type of roofing throughout the state of Georgia.  Why?  Because these shingles are heavy, durable, relatively inexpensive, and easy to install and repair.  Moreover, they come in a variety of colors and styles to choose from.
    • Slate shingles and architectural roofing shingles are two alternatives to the common asphalt shingle.
      • Slate shingles are composed of fine-grained metamorphic rock with a very low water absorption rate.  These can last over 100 years! Their rugged, natural texture and color can be seen on many homes in Northern Europe.
      • Architectural roofing shingles are a new generation in the traditional asphalt shingle. Made from synthetic slate, these have the appearance of traditional shingles but can be used in more distinctive and creative ways.

There are millions of ways to make your home unique and wonderful, both inside and out.  However, having a solid, high quality roof above your head is one way to both protect the upkeep of your home, while also improving its appearance.

Findlay Roofing, a roofing company servicing Atlanta and all of Northern Georgia, specializes in roof installation and roof repair.  Reinvent your home's look and feel with a great roof, and you definitely won't look back.

How to pressure wash your roof roof

    Last updated 2 years ago

Have you ever really inspected your roof?  Without the proper maintenance, moss, lichens, and algae will build up on the shingles and can cause leaks and other costly damage.

This is why maintaining your roof is so important.  Yet many put off cleaning their roof because, well, it can seem like a hassle.

Well, did you know it doesn’t have to be a difficult or tedious task?  In this video by AsktheBuilder.com, learn to clean your roof using a pressure washer.  By using the pressure wash method, your roof will look as new as it did when you first bought it.  And the process is simple:

    • First, choose the right pressure wash nozzle.  Too much water pressure may damage your shingles, but too little pressure won’t remove the dirt.
    • Remember to stand on a dry portion of the roof.  Shingles that are wet are usually dangerous and slippery.
    • Also remember to never pressure spray upward, as it will spray underneath the shingle and the water will seep beneath.
    • Constantly check the shingles while washing to ensure no damage is being done in the process.

    Findlay Roofing Blog

With so many roofing companies to choose from in Atlanta, how do you find a good one? Although the state of Georgia does not requires a roofer to have a license, there are still a number of things you can do to make sure you hire a reliable and trustworthy Atlanta roofer.

Check the Business History and Practices of an Atlanta Roofer

The first thing you should do is make sure you hire a professional roofer to work on your home. Your roof is not a good place to try to save a few dollars by hiring a “handy” friend or relative that “works cheap.”

Instead, do some legwork to verify that the Atlanta roofing companies you are considering are professional and well-established businesses.

Check the Work Quality of an Atlanta Roofing Company

Once you have identified some credible, professional Atlanta roofing companies, you should check the quality of their work. Here are some ways you can evaluate the work done by an Atlanta roofer.
