"A well-built Atlanta roof can last well over 15 years, but only if you take care of it. If you ignore your roof, you can lose years of service. But if you invest a little time each year, you can extend the life of your roof for several years."

    Inspection Matters-

Not Just Decoration: Gargoyles in Art History.. on the Roof!

    Last updated 2 years ago

Too many people these days think gargoyles are not much more than an, admittedly awesome, Saturday morning cartoon show. While most people understand that gargoyles have a rich history dating back almost a thousand years, it is the cartoon, and not their history as a roofing accessory, that most people remember.

While largely out of favor as a design element these days, gargoyles are an important part of not only roofing history, but also art history.

    1.       Where Do They Come From?
Gargoyle is thought to be derived from the French word “gargouille”, or throat. The exact history of gargoyles is a bit nebulous, but they seem to have made their entrance to Gothic architecture in the early 13th century.

    2.       What Are They?
Gargoyles are elaborately carved stone accessories to Gothic cathedrals and buildings, designed primarily as storm spouts. While their function as a drainage system was important in preserving the stone of the building, the folklore surrounding them soon became more important. It was believed that gargoyles served as the guardians of the building, and that soon became their primary function.

    3.       Where Did They Go?
Nobody knows. A few buildings have been built recently that include them, such as the Washington National Cathedral, but they have been, by-and-large, dropped by architects and roofing companies alike. After the Gothic Revival of the 19th century, they have rarely been seen since.

Gargoyles have an interesting and rich history in roofing and art history. While we can’t help you if you find your home severely lacking in gargoyles, we can help if you find you have a leaky roof, need roofing repair, or have a hail damaged roof.

Findlay Roofing has been helping Atlanta and Marietta with their roofing repair needs for 15 years. We’d like to help you with yours as well. Give us a call at (770) 516-5806 to schedule a free consultation.

4 Qualities to Seek Out in a Roofing Company- Roof Roof!

    Last updated 2 years ago

The roof over our heads isn’t something we often think about unless it’s about to cave-in. Unless you’ve got a leaky roof, significant hail damage, or a tree crashing through part of it, your roof just isn’t high on your list of priorities.

So when it is time for roofing repair, what should you be looking for in a roofing company?

    1.       Experience
The number one indicator of a quality roofing company is the length of time they’ve been in business under the same name. So many roofing companies spring up and disappear, only to reappear under a different name a year later. This is either a sign of a fly-by-night operation, or of a financially unstable company, neither of which you should trust with your roofing repair.

    2.       Credentials
Additionally, reputable roofing companies will have the credentials to back up their work. This means they’ll have the proper licenses and insurance. They should also, ideally, have a strong working relationship with the manufacturers of the products they use.

    3.       Warranties
Any reputable company will stand behind the work they do. If there’s a problem, they’ll fix it. Findlay Roofing offers a 10-year leak-free warranty. If you aren’t offered a warranty, avoid that roofing company like the plague.

    4.       References
Similarly, reputable companies will not shy away from giving you references. Be sure to check them out; look at the quality of the work even 5 years after the fact. This will give you a good idea of the quality of work you can expect on your roofing repair job.

These are just four of the things to look for in a quality roofing company. How a company presents itself to you says a lot, and a company with little experience and no relationships isn’t who you want for your leaky roof, let alone your roof replacement.

A company like Findlay Roofing, on the other hand, with 15 years of experience servicing roofs in Atlanta, as well as being one of only 45 Owings Corning Platinum Preferred
